Love and Hope reflected in Oriana's latest offering
Reflections: Songs of Love and Hope is the title of Oriana’s upcoming concert series, to be presented at St. Patrick’s Church, Gympie, and Stella Maris Performance Centre, Maroochydore, on August 17 and 18.
It is also a phrase which contains a wealth of meaning and significance. Love and Hope are arguably the two most fundamental characteristics that define our humanity. Both are crucial to giving our lives value and meaning. And, to paraphrase the old Sinatra classic, “Love And Marriage”, you really cannot have one without the other. Love without Hope has little hope of surviving, and Hope without Love is not really hope at all. The very fact that there are songs of Love and Hope in the world testifies to how important they are in our lives.
And Reflections? The term has several meanings. There’s the obvious one of seeing something reflected in a mirror – usually oneself. There’s also the idea of meditating upon something, and deriving meaning; significance; hope, from such meditation. All of the songs in this concert programme display both of these meanings to a greater or lesser degree. And every one of them will encourage and exhort you to reflect on how crucial Love and Hope are to our lives. Indeed, a life without Love and Hope is hardly worthy of the name.
But the sentiments expressed in these beautiful songs give you ample reason to believe that both Love and Hope are alive and well in the world, and will ultimately prevail against all that the world may try to put in their way.
The concert begins with “Festival Sanctus”, an exuberant celebration of God’s love for the world and for humanity; it ends with “What the World Needs Now” (and has always needed, and always will). In between, there are a dozen or more songs that are by turns joyous, contemplative, heart-rending, passionate, and pleading. All are engaging, melodic and unquestionably beautiful. Delivered with Oriana’s signature precision and sensitivity, Reflections: Songs of Love and Hope will be a very special, and a very uplifting experience.
