Hard work at rehearsals promises a wonderful performance.
Wow! Only three weeks out from Oriana’s concerts presenting Mozart’s timeless Requiem and the beautiful Sunrise Mass by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo (pronounced Yaylo). This promises to be one of Oriana’s best performances ever. The contrasting styles of these two major works really highlight the Oriana Choir’s versatility. The choir has been pouring everything into rehearsals, and the sound we are producing is quite spectacular. We have a weekend of intensive rehearsal sessions coming up with season Music Director/Conductor Andrew Wailes, which should put us into ‘peak condition’ for the coming concerts on 15th and 16th of May.
Andrew is an internationally acclaimed musician, singer, conductor and music educator. He led the choir in their highly successful presentation of Mendelssohn’s Elijah in 2019, and we are indeed privileged to have him at the helm again.
The choir will be most ably supported in the Requiem by four highly accomplished soloists, all of whom have sung with Oriana previously. Our own Elisabeth Wallis Gaedtke is the soprano, together with alto Anne Fulton, tenor Philip Prendergast and bass Shaun Brown. Choir and soloists will be accompanied by the acclaimed Brisbane orchestra, the Sinfonia of St. Andrews.
