Oriana Arts Inc is hosting the second annual Sunshine Coast choral workshop, A Weekend with Graham Abbott with accompanist Fay Baker OAM, on August 26th and 27th at Stella Maris Catholic Primary School, Maroochydore. This year we are proud to be included as part of the Horizon's Festival, one of the Sunshine Coast's most prestigious events on the Arts Calendar.
After the success of last year's event, Graham has kindly agreed to facilitate our workshop again. Attendees will not only benefit from his in depth musical knowledge which he so willingly shares, but also his wealth of historical knowledge of the the works and composers, which will keep you mesmerised.
Graham Abbott has been Conductor-in-Residence at the Elder Conservatorium of Music Adelaide, Musical Director of Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, Associate Conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Musical Director of Melbourne Chorale, and Guest Chorus Master for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
He has conducted all the major Australian orchestras, opera companies and leading choral societies, new music and early music ensembles. A respected music educator, Graham was producer and presenter of the highly successful Keys To Music series on ABC Classic FM from 2003 – 2017.
Music to be workshopped over the weekend includes six choruses from Handel's Messiah, three choruses from Mendelssohn's Elijah and a delightful madrigal from John Benet. There will are free preparatory rehearsal at Connections on King in Buderim prior to the workshop to enable participants to familiarise themselves with the music. This will be held on Thursday August 24th from 7.15 - 9.30pm.
Links to rehearsal tracks and sheet music will be provided to all those registered to attend.
Costs for the 2-day workshop are $120 per person or $100 per person when booking in a group of 10 or more, so choirs and ensembles are encouraged to gather their members for a memorable weekend of singing.
